Matt Olson & Nicole Vingo offer employees Crisis Prevention training on a monthly basis. This program is known worldwide for its innovative, holistic philosophy of providing Care, Welfare, Safety and Security for staff and the people they support. CPI is mandatory for all employees at Quest, regardless of the needs of each position. 

 

All employees must complete the full 8 hour course of CPI at the beginning of their employment. CPI must be recertified within 18 months of the original course. A recertification class is 4 hours in duration.

LIFTING & TRANSFERRING: BACK SAFETY
MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Tina Wagner has been a leader in lifting and transferring for many years. Tina offers employees an insightful course that provides people with the basic knowledge around lifting and transferring safely. She provides insight into why certain techniques are used, and provides information on how to use and maintain a wheelchair. This course is a mandatory course and is offered frequently to ensure employees get the training they need.

All employees participate in basic lift & transferring at agency orientation. Employees supporting people who require assistance must attend an in-house training course offered regularily. Please contact a member of the Employee Resource Center for more information.

Hands on training and techniques are preformed during this course so please be prepared to interact with teammates. Employees with previous back injuries are not recommended to complete any lifts and therefore should not be enrolled in this course. If you have a previous back injury, contact Kendal in the ERC to have this file requirement waived**

Quest offers employees an in-depth medication administration course. This course covers a variety of important techniques and procedures that most employees will come across during their employment. It is important to come prepared to listen, learn, and take notes as medication is a very important and serious component of your role here at Quest.

Medication Administration is a mandatory 3 hour in-house course. All employees must receive training upon hire and must attend a refresher course every three years.

Abuse Prevention & Response training is led by  various members of the management team. This course teaches employees how to prevent, identify, and report abuse. The key focus being prevention. Our up-beat and interactive class allows participants to explore opportunities to prevent abuse to our most vulnerable sector.

 

This course is mandatory for all employees at Quest and is initially trained during our Agency Orientation. Employees must attend an in-house refresher  course yearly in order to meet employee file requirements.

ABUSE PREVENTION & RESPONSE

Mental Health First Aid explains mental health, mental health illness and issues, signs and symptoms, and teaches effective interventions and treatments. This 12 hour 2-day course is offered quarterly in-house by Sharde Davies and Melissa Clarke.

 

This course is offered to our staff who regularly support persons with known mental illness. Check the course calendar or contact a memeber of the Employee Resource Team for upcoming training dates.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

Foundations in Community Disability Studies is a Diploma Program offered  through a certified instructor via ACDS (our representative is Michele Currie). This program has been developed and tailored specifically to the Disability Services Industry of Alberta. 

 

This course is offered free of charge to our most dedicated employees. If you are interested in this training opportunity, please contact your a member of the Employee Resource Team.

FOUNDATIONS

Suicide Intervention teaches intervention and redirection strategies for persons who may have suicidal ideations.

 

This course is available to our employees who provide supports to people who may be at risk in this area. For more information regarding this course, please contact the Employee Resource Center.

SUICIDE INTERVENTION

Positive Behaviour Supports Level I & II develops the knowledge and values base and starts to develop specific skills and competencies. This workshop puts into concrete practice the concept outlines in Alberta's Creating Excellence Together (CET) Accreditations Standards. The underlying philosphy of the training session focuses upon the individuals and developing the supports that are unique to an individual's needs.

 

Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) is a program designed to teach participants positive and proactive intervention strategies for addressing situations or behaviours of concern.  Program participants are guided through a series of modules that cover what behaviour is, why behaviours occur, and how to responsibly and ethically manage those situations.

 

This 2-day training course is offered in-house by Matt Olson. Employees supporting people with Complex Support Needs are encrouaged to contact a memeber of the Employee Resource Team and sign up.

LEARNING

Open Future Learning is an online training program accessible to members of the Quest Community. OFL offers inspirational training for people working in the disability sector. Quest Support Services Inc. utilizes 14 of the 16 modules offered by the program to enhance the skills of our team. These modules utilize videos and personal stories to inspire our employees and bring passion to life.

 

Open Futures Learning is an online learning tool. Any users who have access to a computer or I-pad with an internet connection can utilize this tool.

Any staff members interested in completing modules on Open Future Learning can arrange to do so by contacting a member of the Employee Resource Team.

Employees who have planned down-time or experience shift cancellations may be requested to complete a module(s) to enhance their skills.

 

 

For additional information on Open Future Learning or to check out sample modules, 

Relying on common sense alone is not enough to ensure the safety of the people we support. Bathing and showering tasks that many people do without much thought, however in some cases, individuals need specfic assistance with these tasks. The purpose of this training is to equip staff to provide the support necessary for the individuals to bathe and shower safely.

 

Staff who have not recieved this training must read through the manual and then print out the test. Please submit your completed test to the main office for marking.

ACDS SAFE BATHING & SHOWERING

The Employee Resource Pre-Test has been designed so that you fully understand the beginning stages of being employed here at Quest.

We require all new hires to read through the Employee Resource Policies (Link below) and complete the Employee Resource Centre Policy Quiz (Link Below). Please submit this quiz to the Front Desk at the beginning of Agency Orientation. If you do not have access to a printer, you may use a blank piece of paper and write questions (#1-18) and the corresponding lettered answer. All new employees MUST score a minimum of 70% on this Quiz.
